That said, observations typically only focus on the usage of an existing alternative (the ascent of the hill in the diagram) which is great for uncovering friction but you don’t get to uncover triggers, desired outcomes, or inertia, or generally understand what might be going on in your customer’s mind unless you can also talk to them.
