In my newer problem interview script (will be released as part of this project), I advise against using any of the terms on the Customer Forces Canvas including the word “problem”.

You should solely be focused just on getting the full story about their last listening session. Problems are extracted using a back-door approach.

Here’s how your interview may have unfolded:

===

“When was the last time you listened to music”

“It was actually right before this meeting.”

“Interesting…Where were you?”

“On the metro ride over to see you.”

“Can I see your mp3 player?”

<Note model and maybe ask about how long they’ve had it, where/when they purchased if interesting to know>

“I see you carry this in your pocket, do you also own a phone?”

“Yes, I do…”

“Where do you carry it?”

“In my other back pocket”

“Do you own any other devices?”

“Yes, I have a PDA too…That I carry in my laptop bag because I don’t any more back pockets unless I’m wearing a jacket.”

Hope that helps.
